On Sunday 30th June 2024, Ridge Carbon Capture Managing Director Betsy Glasgow-Vasey joined political commentator and former Minister for Culture Ed Vaizey in the Times Radio Election Bus. During the interview, Betsy explained why peatlands are so important for mitigating carbon emissions and how moving peat up on the agenda will help the country meet sustainability goals. Betsy also spoke about the role the UK can play in encouraging other peal-rich countries to focus on protection and restoration of this important resource.
She said:
“With the expertise and resources we have, the UK deserves to be a world leader in understanding and restoring peatland. I do think the way that we look at our peatlands and the regulations we have around restoring peatlands, carbon markets and the financial mechanisms that we have going into them, we could easily be exporting these elsewhere and teaching other countries how to do it well.”
